Pittsboro Things to Do: Parks, Restaurants, and Indianapolis
Pittsboro, Indiana is a small town located just to the northwest of Indiana state capital Indianapolis. With a population of just under 3,000, the town’s one claim to fame is Jeff Gordon, a NASCAR racing superstar and a famous person from Pittsboro. Since the town is so small, there aren’t too many unique things to do in Pittsboro, but the town does offer up the usual range of small town attractions that make for a casual night on the town with friends and family.
There are a three Pittsboro parks that offer up fun family entertainment for lovers of the great outdoors. These parks are lovely green spaces with playgrounds for Pittsboro children, open green spaces for Pittsboro sports, and plenty of walking trails for a serene jaunt through the countryside. The biggest of the parks in Pittsboro is Scamahorn Memorial Park, an open space in the middle of Pittsboro that is filled with shelter houses, picnic areas, and places to grill out during the dog days of summer. These family parks provide several fun things to do in Pittsboro.
Of course, what small town would be complete without a number of locally owned restaurants to provide residents with some good food and good company? Pittsboro doesn’t fail to disappoint here, either; Pittsboro restaurants are havens of comfort food and good places to kick back and relax after a long day of work at an Indianapolis business. Most of these dining establishments line downtown Pittsboro and are locally owned Pittsboro businesses. Frank and Mary’s Tavern is just down the street from Scamahorn Memorial Park and serves up some of the best catfish in the region. The restaurant has been family owned since 1945 and has kept up its tradition of home cooked seafood like frog legs, popcorn shrimp, and lobster tails since then. For true carnivores, Pittsboro is also home to Hoghead’s BBQ, a messy, finger lickin’ spectacle that’s been pulling Indianapolis restaurant lovers into Pittsboro since 2001. And for hanging out with your friends, there’s no better place than the Pittsboro Pizzeria, a pizza parlor that offers pasta and salad in addition to a great pie. A meal at a Pittsboro restaurant is a great thing to do in Pittsboro.

The only bad thing about Pittsboro is that it doesn’t really have much to do for young people, people who want to experience different cultures, or people who crave excitement and activity. The good news is Pittsboro is only a short drive away from downtown Indianapolis, one of the most active cities in the Midwest. The Circle City is alive with restaurants, bars, and art. Head to one of the six Indianapolis cultural districts to soak up the colorful lights and cool sounds of the Indianapolis art and the Indianapolis music scene, buy a ticket at an Indianapolis theater to experience some of the best in Indianapolis performing arts, or simply go to an Indianapolis bar and create a night to remember with your friends: all this and more is within easy reach of Pittsboro. A trip out to the big city is one of the most fun things to do in Pittsboro.
All in all, Pittsboro is not a very active town. It has a number of relaxing, fun Pittsboro things to do, but nothing incredibly unique or wild. And that’s okay, because Pittsboro residents are close enough to Indianapolis to be able to take advantage of all the excitement the Circle City has to offer. Residents of Pittsboro can soak in the Indiana countryside at one of the three Pittsboro parks, hang out with friends and fill their bellies at a Pittsboro restaurant, or take a short day trip to Indianapolis to experience all the bustle of the big city. There are plenty of things to do in Pittsboro if you look hard enough.
